Smoothies!

You guys know that I love my smoothies!  I make one every morning in my Vitamix Blender (which I also love!).  Last time, I gave you smoothies where I used a protein powder but this time...I'm just giving you fruit and veggie smoothies.  I'm always looking for new ways to make my drinks, so please give me ideas in the comments section below!

Here are some of my smoothie tips...
1. I always use a little ice because it makes the drink cold and more frothy.  However, too much ice makes it hard to mix and drink.  I add about 5 cubes for one smoothie.
2. If your blender isn't turning and gets "stuck", you probably need more liquid.  I'll use water.  I add about 1/2 a cup of liquid to each smoothie.  Add more if your smoothie isn't whipping around fast enough.
3. Frozen fruit is a great add-in and stays fresh in the freezer.  I buy several varieties and keep them on hand.

Alrighty...nothing fancy...just my smoothies!  I just snap pics with my i-Phone in the morning right before I drink them...please excuse the photography :).

Apple Kale Smoothie
This smoothie has a handful of kale, 1 Granny Smith apple, 2 celery stalks, a splash of pineapple juice, some water and ice.

Carrot and Mango Smoothie
This smoothie has a handful of baby carrots and a handful of frozen mango pieces blended together with water and ice.

Tomato Strawberry Carrot Smoothie
This smoothie has about 5 cherry tomatoes, a handful of baby carrots and a half a cup of frozen strawberries blended with some ice and water.

Celery and Pineapple Smoothie
This smoothie has 4 stalks of celery and one cup of frozen pineapple chunks blended with some water and ice.

Raspberry, Carrot and Cucumber
This smoothie has a handful of frozen raspberries, a handful of baby carrots and 5 slices of cucumber along with some water and ice.

I just love seeing my blender full of yummy produce and then whipping it together into a yummy drink!  I have these smoothies alongside a whole wheat English muffin with almond butter every morning.

XOXO

We love our vitamix! One of my favorite things to do in the summer is make fruit and veggies smoothies and then freeze them in popsicle molds. Hudson eats them like ice cream in the summer.

I'm so intrigued by those HUGE straws you use!!! hahaha!

I think I do something wrong...no matter what I put in a smoothie...they kind of always taste the same. Is that normal??

Yes, the straws! Where did you get them?!

One of my favorite smoothies to make is a 'greenacolada'. Spinach or kale, strawberries, banana, pineapple, coconut milk. Soooo good!

The jumbo straws are from Walmart :)

My dinner most nights is a giant smoothie. I hate eating salads but love drinking them! The Vitamix changed my life a few years ago. I use all frozen fruit so no ice needed. I use water, about 2 oz vanilla yogurt, 5-6 cups of kale/spinach/chard blend (from great organic bag at costco), a mini pepper, handful of baby carrots, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/4 apple, 3 cubes of pineapple, a splash of unsweetened cranberry juice and a handful of old fashioned oats. My kids always drink about cup each of this as well.

Instead of regular water, I use coconut water in my smoothies - gives you an extra dose of potassium and electrolytes.

I'm with Erika...super huge straws!!! :) Also, I just found this tip on another blog somewhere, but haven't done it yet (plan to today)...add some Crystal Light powder mix (BUT THE ONE WITH TRUVIA) to your smoothie. I read it's how to sweeten your smoothie over all the veggie taste. Crystal Light uses different kinds of sweetener (artificial), but they do make one with Truvia so it's better for you. Not sure how much. Just a thought if you are having a heavy veggie smoothie or the taste is just too bland. It was kind of hard to find, but ended up finding it at Walmart out of all places.

Also, I may have shared this on your smoothie post, but my favorite smoothie is: 1 T. PB2 (powder peanut butter with low cals), 1 banana, 8oz. plain non-fat greek yogurt, 1/2 c. any type of milk, and ice. Amazing!

Do you have any suggestions for other blenders for those who can't afford a Vitamix?

Thanks for the new smoothie ideas! I have been in a rut with mine, only using green and not other veggies.

My dad is into juicing now and got a really fancy machine. Wondering if I should just get the vitamix.

Great smoothie ideas! Thank you! And I will be getting some of those straws. It takes me forever to finish my smoothies!

My go to smoothie is:
-1/2-1 cup fresh squeezed OJ
-few dollops of vanilla
Greek yogurt
-handful of kale or spinach
-1/2-1 frozen banana
-enough frozen strawberries to give you the perfect consistency
*sometimes I add a few flakes of coconut to give it a tropical twist!

Love all the other recipes from everybody!

They also have the straws at bed, bath, and beyond....I buy several packs at a time! We make smoothies in the blender using frozen fruit, pear juice usually, and yogurt--greek or regular, whichever we have...the straws are awesome when the smoothie is thickened with yogurt!

Great recipes! Can't wait to try some.

My favorite smoothie is:
1 cup vanilla almond milk
1 cup packed fresh spinach
1 cup frozen mango
1 sliced fresh banana
It's super tasty!

My favorite recipe is the classic berry smoothie

1 banana
1/2 cup strawberries
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup of blackberries

However, I have been getting into green smoothies lately. And I came across an amazing tropical smoothie recipe here http://recipesforjuicers.info/green-smoothie-recipes/

My favorite is frozen pineapple, kale, and mint with a little ice. For my kids I do a berry bend, vanilla Greek yogurt, and a handful of spinach or kale. I have to make sure is not green or my 3 year old won't drink it.
We have a ninja, not as great as a vitamixer but still blends well and is a little cheaper.

Hey Shay! Thanks for all your yummy recipes! I love them and reading your blogs!! I have a question, are you still really happy with your Vitamix? Do you think any of the versions would work well for smoothies? Trying to get my birthday list/Christmas list ready! Thanks!!

Now that I've had a Vitamix for six months, I really don't see how I could use any other blender. It really is the very best of the best!!
